There is a small Starling roost in a group of Leylandii at the bottom of next door neighbour's garden here in Tonbridge. We have a mini-murmuration most evenings consisting of around 70 birds. The young ones are just getting into full adult plumage and sport a slightly wacky combination of brown juvenile and spangly adult feathers. Getting to the roost is a rather hesitant process for them and they gather up on the rooftops before taking the collective plunge. A small group settled just opposite my office window, almost daring each other to fly.....thats a bit anthropomorphic of me !....but it does look like there is a bit of banter going on.....
